IR switches= FAIL

Category: Life

So, today I tried a few infrared switches to use with my eyebrow. As I kind of feared, infrared switches don’t respond quickly enough, or accurately enough for someone as fast as me. Supposedly, very few are close to being as fast as me with a switch and my switch software.

So, I still need to find a responsive switch that doesn’t require my thumb, or the zombies could just come. Either way.

TED conferences; ever see them on the Web? Smartest/Brightest people on the planet. Many involved in input/output device design. I say we find one ( i know a few myself) and we tell them your unique needs, and get them on it.

I second that Will comment. I am going to send a link over to a friend of mine at Apple and see what he thinks. He is a TED junkie too. That being said, if the zombies do come, I hope it’s more like Shaun of the Dead.

I told my buddy about the Apoco-Rave XTC Poisoning Idea I came up with here, and he just makes this “W” with his fingers and smiles. I’m like huh, then laughed, Ooohhh Yeah, “the Winchester” (the bar in Shawn of the Dead that they keep thinking is the ideal sanctuary on Z Day).

I have some peeps at IIT and UIC in Chicago; one is a professor of Electrical Design, the other is a prototype designer/professor. They make all kinds of weird new shit.

Mike (do you hate being called Mike?) -= Can you either post or email me your specifics on your rig/gear, both thumb and eyebrow rig? (Who makes / any model info / basics as to interface with the Mac, (ports), etc.

First, thank you all for your good vibes, I really appreciate it.

Will: You can call me anything you like.

First, I have a USB switch interface. I use and love the Swifty ( http://orin.com/access/swifty/index.htm ) from Origin Instruments.

For my switch, I use the second one on this list: http://www.amdi.net/sensors.htm

    arsenalgear: Those look promising!

Ono-Sendai need to hurry up and release the first generation of cyberspace decks, complete with head-jack.

Joking aside though, have you ever thought about future possibilities regarding direct neural links? I know it’s all a bit pie-in-the-sky right now, but although I’ve never considered it in those terms before it’d be the perfect application.

That’s the first William Gibson name drop I’ve read, used in context with someone I know, way to go Alex. I don’t maybe “get around enough” and maybe people still talk about Gibson, but he’s my favorite author/that was a pleasure to watch my brain recoil the first word into your sentence. Oh SimStim, where art Thou, fo’ sho’re.

I was really saddened to hear about your lack of success with the eyebrow switches, but the comments here are very inspiring!

You’ve got some great peeps, Mike. I’m pulling for you still.
