Saddest mix

Category: Life

I’ve accidentally created one of the saddest, most depressing mix CDs of all time. I’m not saying it’s the saddest, I can’t verify that, but I can safely say that it’s in the top five. I was shooting for relaxing, but relaxing flew by, and we ended up at astonishingly sad. It seems to be the perfect balance of Elliott Smith and Aimee Mann, a distillation of their most melancholy work.

Perhaps, one day, this mix will be responsible for the collapse of society, like The Signal

I’m never, ever, going to tell you what to see, what to feel, what to look for. As you said, Dude, nothing jar’s me. If you feel the gratitude for the artists as they thought and felt and made these tunes? you appreciate and feel gratitude for their talents and how they made your heart resonate? Then it’s not such the sad society destroying playlist.

I like my sad with a beat without overcompensation. Little too poppy but, since you started it:

    The Fray, Over my Head.

    Dude, for real, don’t wallow.

I’m not saying you’ve got to sentence yourself to a playlist of Barry Mannilow, John Denver, and The Partridge Family, but seriously, surely you can find even a short playlist that is … uplifting? Something to raise the spirits?

Cause that playlist has gotta be what Eeyore has going in his Ipod.

Even happy I don’t like happy music. I like what I like.

No doubt Elliot Smith is a genius. And he surely strikes some notes that get pretty close to inner truth.

But when you’re in a breakup, have yet to find your rebound girl, the Eeyore playlist is not going to make mending your broken heart any easier and certainly not go any faster.

So are you wallowing because you think she’ll realise you understand the magnitude of your fuckup and suddenly come back? Somehow lugubrious affect has become sexy?

For any woman to be drawn to you, you need to be okay. What do you have to offer? Certainly you have amazing tattoos, are a masterful wordsmith, … but what are women looking for? A good listener, a man who takes responsibility, someone who can offer a shoulder to cry on, NOT NEEDY, and always always an abundance of humour.

You are a fabulous guy, one any woman should be lucky to land, but not until you do the work and climb out of this hole. Otherwise you’re only dragging them down with you.

You are absolutely right, you make perfect sense. I’ve thought the same things myself. I just can’t shake the sads, doll.
